I love second hand stores- I just love them! I love the smell, the atmosphere and I’m so excited about the seeking and searching after the unique items that will be perfect for me. I prefer to find my cool stuff there rather than any fancy and expensive brand you can find in shops.
Whenever I enter a second hand store I can never know what I’ll find. When you enter these stores, you can find rare items, that you can’t find anywhere else (even not on eBay!).
Moreover, we renew old items when we buy in second hand stores, and this is a wonderful way of recycling stuff that otherwise would end up in the dumpster. So, from my own perspective, buying in a second hand store adds more value to something that didn’t have much.
Second hand pictures frames
Dima doesn’t like second hand stores. Back in Israel, every Friday, we used to travel in central downtown Jerusalem, and we used to go to my favorite second hand clothing shop. Dima used to become impatient. Even the saleswomen, told me more than once, not to come with him because he was an intrusion.
We got to the US, to be precise we got to Phoenix, AZ, three months ago. Dima’s company rented for us a temporary apartment for a couple of months, and meanwhile we have had to look for a new apartment, furniture and basically everything a household needs.
we bought the Big pieces of furniture like a couch or our bed in the “regular stores”, but regarding everything else we tried to be as creative as possible, beacuse I have a problem with big manufacturer brands. Actually, we built some of the furniture from scratch, but I’ll be writing about them in the future.
Decorative bowls
When we got here I discovered the “Good Will” stores. I felt like a little girl at Candy Land. There I found everything I love in one place. Like the flee market stuff, the vintage store for electronics in downtown Jerusalem and the second hand clothing store that I love so much.
I was overwhelmed. What should I do first? Check the clothes? The furniture? Maybe I should check first the old tape that is standing on the corner shelf? Lamps?- There was an immense of rush adrenaline.
Now you may think I’m crazy. Well, that’s ok, Dima thought the same.
First time in Good Will
So, what can you actually find in second hand stores? I assume that I can’t recommend to the fastidious of you to buy there clothes (it’s a petty because there are a lot of cool stuff), but you can find all kinds of decorative items that will brighten up any room in stores like that, (by the way, the Domino cubes on the clock I built is from good will).
