If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen the new wall in our kitchen.
I got a gift from my American mom’s daughter, Kim , a big pine cone. I had seen one at Dee’s house and I was so excited that this pine cone was bigger than the ostrich egg, that on the first chance Dee visited her daughter, Kim, in California she brought me one.
It lay two days on the marble kitchen. I wanted to give him a place of honor, to be seen and not to be swallowed up by all the browns in our house.
It was a rainy Saturday, it does not happen often, but yes – there are also chilly days in Phoenix Arizona.
We did not have the strength to travel, and our fingers tickled – we had to create. It happens to us from time to time and then we go to wonder in second-hand stores, Home Depot, and local markets to get inspired.
I decided that I wanted to hang the cone in the kitchen, and that I like adding paint in our kitchen walls. Our kitchen as I mentioned before is a New York kitchen – there are no windows, therefore no much light.
One wall we covered with chalkboard painting paintings, and there was another sad empty wall.
Dima probably had a fever or weakness, because he gave me a free hand to do whatever I want, without any discussion. We went to Good Will (a kind of second-hand shop that should start to pay me a percentage), and we bought cheap old cutlery, from Walmart we bought a wooden crate that would be a frame for the pine cone – and we started to create.
A pine cone in a box materials:
Acrylic paint
paintbrush
Fishing thread
Screwdriver
pine cone
Preparation : Color the box and let it dry.
Drill a hole on the top with a screwdriver and tied a fishing line around the pine cone, ran the thread through the hole and tied it up.
Shelf with jars
Enclosures of compulsive jars. This is what I am. Even when we moved to the United States, it really hurt to leave my jars in Israel (a little insane – that’s clear.) Dima always grumbles that I keep jars for nothing, and I try to prove again and again that my compulsive hoarding is justified.
Materials:
Empty jars
Acrylic paint and paintbrush
Fresh or artificial flowers
A wooden shelf
Preparation: paint the shelf with acrylic paint, wait for it to dry and hung it. We fix the jars on the shelf with artificial flowers inside.
EAT
Odd number of objects always looks better. It’s not clear why, but it’s just like that.
So we had to make another object to our wall.
We had a lonely board, which was left behind after all the projects we had built in the house, and I decided to do something with him as well.
Materials:
Acrylic paint
cutlery
Epoxy glue
A board
Preparation: paint the board with acrylic paint. Glue the old cutlery with epoxy glue and spell the word EAT through it. When the cutlery dried up, glued the letters created to the board.
Three simple and inexpensive projects that helped us pass a rainy Sabbath and decorate our kitchen.
